Labor union organizers, left-wing groups attempt to use MLK death anniversary to further message

Labor union bosses and congressional Democrats are tying their battles in Wisconsin and Ohio to the 43rd anniversary of the death of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. King was shot on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tenn., while helping the city’s black sanitation workers in a strike.

“For Dr. King, economic justice was an essential element of his work for civil and human rights, which is why, on the day his life was taken, he was in Memphis, Tennessee, supporting striking sanitation workers as they sought to have their union recognized by the city,” Wade Henderson, the president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, said on a conference call on Monday morning. “On the eve of his death, Dr. King delivered a speech to these workers that came to be known as the ‘Mountaintop Speech,’ in which he preached that if they stayed strong and resilient, they would one day achieve economic security and the chance for opportunity.”

Referring to Tea Party movement, Henderson said, “opportunists are trying to manipulate the facts surrounding the nation’s economic troubles,” in order to “gain a political advantage in the next election cycle.”

“What we’re witnessing is nothing short of an ideological assault on Dr. King’s vision for a more just and equitable nation,” Henderson said. “So, how will ordinary Americans respond to this effort to hijack the American Dream?”

Henderson and other self-described civil rights group leaders like NAACP president Benjamin Jealous and labor union leaders launched what they call an “organic, grassroots,” campaign, “We Are One,” this week. Henderson said their pressure campaign will consist of more than 1,000 “discrete community and workplace-focused actions,” including “more than 150 ‘teach-ins,’ hundreds of worksite mobilizations, community forums, vigils marches and more.”

It’s all part of an effort, though, to frame King’s assassination as a result of his involvement in the Memphis sanitation workers’ strike – an implication that he died fighting for collective bargaining, not against racial inequality.

King’s niece, Dr. Alveda King, told The Daily Caller her uncle really wasn’t in Memphis because it was a strike – he got involved in the strike because of racial discrimination. Black sanitation workers were treated unfairly compared to white ones, and, in fact, all 1,300 strikers were black. The unfair treatment led to the death of two black workers, too, Echol Cole and Robert Walker, who were crushed in a mechanical malfunction.

“My uncle was in Memphis, not specifically because of the union strikes but to help bring an end to oppression of the garbage workers which was racially driven,” Alveda King said in an e-mail.

Paul Ryan’s Revolution Would Finish Reagan’s

Is Rep. Paul Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity” potentially the most important and necessary piece of economic legislation since President Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts in 1981? Quite likely. The blueprint embraces free markets and individual choice to radically reshape America’s social welfare state for the 21st century and shrink government. Instead of looking for ways to finance an ever-expanding public sector, it would prevent Washington from growing to a projected 45 percent of GDP by 2050 (vs. 24 percent today) and instead reduce it to just under 15 percent by that year. Ryan would downsize government to its smallest size since 1950 and prevent the Europeanization of the American economy. The Ryan Path embraces dynamic growth, not managed decline and stagnation.

But what’s really important is that it affirmatively answers three questions: First, does the Ryan Path put the federal government on a sustainable fiscal path? Second, does it promote more economic growth and higher incomes? Third, is it politically realistic? Let’s take those one at a time:

The GOP Path to Prosperity

Our budget cuts $6.2 trillion in spending from the president's budget over the next 10 years and puts the nation on track to pay off our national debt.

Congressman Paul Ryan
By PAUL D. RYAN

Congress is currently embroiled in a funding fight over how much to spend on less than one-fifth of the federal budget for the next six months. Whether we cut $33 billion or $61 billion—that is, whether we shave 2% or 4% off of this year's deficit—is important. It's a sign that the election did in fact change the debate in Washington from how much we should spend to how much spending we should cut.

But this morning the new House Republican majority will introduce a budget that moves the debate from billions in spending cuts to trillions. America is facing a defining moment. The threat posed by our monumental debt will damage our country in profound ways, unless we act.

No one person or party is responsible for the looming crisis. Yet the facts are clear: Since President Obama took office, our problems have gotten worse. Major spending increases have failed to deliver promised jobs. The safety net for the poor is coming apart at the seams. Government health and retirement programs are growing at unsustainable rates. The new health-care law is a fiscal train wreck. And a complex, inefficient tax code is holding back American families and businesses.

The president's recent budget proposal would accelerate America's descent into a debt crisis. It doubles debt held by the public by the end of his first term and triples it by 2021. It imposes $1.5 trillion in new taxes, with spending that never falls below 23% of the economy. His budget permanently enlarges the size of government. It offers no reforms to save government health and retirement programs, and no leadership.

Our budget, which we call The Path to Prosperity, is very different. For starters, it cuts $6.2 trillion in spending from the president's budget over the next 10 years, reduces the debt as a percentage of the economy, and puts the nation on a path to actually pay off our national debt. Our proposal brings federal spending to below 20% of gross domestic product (GDP), consistent with the postwar average, and reduces deficits by $4.4 trillion.

A study just released by the Heritage Center for Data Analysis projects that The Path to Prosperity will help create nearly one million new private-sector jobs next year, bring the unemployment rate down to 4% by 2015, and result in 2.5 million additional private-sector jobs in the last year of the decade. It spurs economic growth, with $1.5 trillion in additional real GDP over the decade. According to Heritage's analysis, it would result in $1.1 trillion in higher wages and an average of $1,000 in additional family income each year.

Good Wills to Set Brandon Ablaze

Shane Good
My friends, Shane and Julie Good have been called to Canada to spread the gospel and God is opening doors for them there. Here is a recent story in a local newspaper. Shane thinks the story title should have been 'God Wills to Set Brandon Ablaze.'

If you want to learn more or you wish to help them financially, click here. - Reggie

On May 13, the Victoria Inn will play host to Brandon Ablaze, a different take on religion.

Shane Good, his wife Julie, and their partners Chris and Rachel O’Shea will be presenting Brandon Ablaze as a way to reach out to people of Brandon and help them experience a new relationship with God.

“I was raised going to church every week, and I never really ‘knew’ God,” said Shane Good, who grew up in Washington State.

“I knew about Him, I knew things He’s done, but I never felt I had a real relationship with Him until I was about 18-years old.”

Good says at that time he accompanied a friend to the Brownsville Revival in Florida, where he experienced a new kind of service.

“I remember, more than anything that night, the music,” said Good.

“The music was incredible, it flowed through me, and I was really able to feel the presence of God like never before.”

Now Good wants to share the experience with anyone who wants it.

“We’re going to have a full band, playing some great worship-themed music, and then afterwards Chris O’Shea is going to give a presentation on the hot topic that is creation versus evolution,” said Good.

“We want the presentation to get the truth out,” said Chris O’Shea.

“We really just want people to pay the same amount of thought and consideration to creationism as they do to the theory of evolution.”

I have read Mornings on Horseback, John Adams and have watched The Civil War countless times. Also in my library is 1776: The Illustrated Edition, described as "a distinctive art book and a collectible archive, 1776: The Illustrated Edition combines a treasury of eighteenth-century paintings, sketches, documents, and maps with storytelling by our nation's preeminent historian to tell the story of 1776 as never before."

Is this the first ever portrait of Jesus?

The incredible story of 70 ancient books hidden in a cave for nearly 2,000 years

The image is eerily familiar: a bearded young man with flowing curly hair. After lying for nearly 2,000 years hidden in a cave in the Holy Land, the fine detail is difficult to determine. But in a certain light it is not difficult to interpret the marks around the figure’s brow as a crown of thorns.

The extraordinary picture of one of the recently discovered hoard of up to 70 lead codices – booklets – found in a cave in the hills overlooking the Sea of Galilee is one reason Bible historians are clamouring to get their hands on the ancient artefacts.

If genuine, this could be the first-ever portrait of Jesus Christ, possibly even created in the lifetime of those who knew him.

Discovery: The impression on this booklet cover shows what could be the earliest image of Christ

The tiny booklet, a little smaller than a modern credit card, is sealed on all sides and has a three-dimensional representation of a human head on both the front and the back. One appears to have a beard and the other is without. Even the maker’s fingerprint can be seen in the lead impression. Beneath both figures is a line of as-yet undeciphered text in an ancient Hebrew script.

Astonishingly, one of the booklets appears to bear the words ‘Saviour of Israel’ – one of the few phrases so far translated.

This is Our Future with ObamaCare

Former NHS director dies after operation is cancelled four times at her own hospital

A former NHS director died after waiting for nine months for an operation - at her own hospital.

Margaret Hutchon, a former mayor, had been waiting since last June for a follow-up stomach operation at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex.

But her appointments to go under the knife were cancelled four times and she barely regained consciousness after finally having surgery.

Her devastated husband, Jim, is now demanding answers from Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust - the organisation where his wife had served as a non-executive member of the board of directors.

He said: 'I don't really know why she died. I did not get a reason from the hospital. We all want to know for closure. She got weaker and weaker as she waited and operations were put off.'

Mr Hutchon, of Great Baddow, Essex, said his wife, 72, had initially undergone major stomach surgery last June but the follow up procedures were repeatedly abandoned.

The former mayor remained at the hospital for months but her family feared she was becoming institutionalised and decided to bring her home until an operation was a certainty.

Geert Wilders: Fitna 2 Coming in 2012

This article is cross posted from The Iconoclast

Geert Wilders
Rumor has it that Geert Wilders is coming to the American heartland next month. That will no doubt lead to howls of protest from the local Muslim Brotherhood affiliates. We will let you know the dates and venues when we are provided details.

This week Wilders had an op ed in the Dutch magazine “HP de Tijd” about the figure whom the Jewish Sage, Maimonides, described as "Mohammed ha meshugga" - "Mohammed the crazy one" in Hebrew.  It was entitled, "Time to Unmask Muhammad.".  Here is an excerpt:

There has been much analysis of Muhammad’s mental sanity. In spite of all the available research, it is rarely mentioned or debated. It is a taboo to discuss the true nature of the man whom one and a half billion Muslims around the world regard as a holy prophet and example to be followed. That taboo must be breached in the West, and here in the Netherlands.

Ali Sina is an Iranian ex-Muslim who established the organisation for apostates of Islam Faith  Freedom International. In his latest book he posits that Muhammad is a narcissist, a paedophile, a mass murderer, a terrorist, a misogynist, a lecher, a cult leader, a madman, a rapist, a torturer, an assassin and a looter (*). Sina has offered 50,000 dollars for the one who can prove otherwise. Nobody has claimed the reward as yet. And no wonder, as the description is based on the Islamic texts themselves, such as the hadiths, the descriptions of Muhammad’s life from testimonies of contemporaries.

The historical Muhammad was the savage leader of a gang of robbers from Medina. Without scruples they looted, raped and murdered. The sources describe orgies of savagery where hundreds of people’s throats were cut, hands and feet chopped off, eyes cut out, entire tribes massacred. An example is the extinction of the jewish Kurayza tribe in Medina in 627. One of those who chopped off their heads was Muhammad. The women and children were sold as slaves. Confronted with the lunacy of Islamic terrorists today, it is not hard to find out where the lunacy comes from.

Wilders  announced today the launch of Fitna-2 in 2012. This news release from his Hague office explains what the short film will address- the madness of Mohammed and the  courage of those who have left Islam by personal choice.

Geert Wilders launches Fitna 2 in 2012

In 2008, Dutch MP Geert Wilders released the 17-minute documentary Fitna, which demonstrates how the Koran encourages acts of terrorism, anti-Semitism, violence against women, homosexuals and infidels.

Today, Mr. Wilders announced that next year he will release Fitna 2.

The topic of this new documentary will be the figure of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

Mr. Wilders wants to expose the barbaric, murderous behaviour and mental sanity of Muhammad, the man whom one and a half billion Muslims around the world regard as a holy prophet and example to be followed.

With his movie Mr. Wilders wants to express his support for the brave men and women who have left Islam and who, according to Islamic law, deserve the death penalty. “These people are heroes. They deserve our support,” Mr. Wilders says.

The Report AARP Doesn’t Want You to Read

This is cross-posted from the blog of House Speaker John Boehner

Posted by Michael Ricci on March 31, 2011

AARP may have lost thousands of members for supporting ObamaCare, but it appears to have gained quite a windfall in the process.  That’s one of several striking conclusions in a new report released by members of the House Ways & Means Committee.  Titled “Behind the Veil: The AARP America Doesn’t Know,” this investigative report details how AARP, considered “one of the most formidable lobbying forces in Washington,” stands to rake in more than $1 billion over the next ten years on account of a health care law that is forcing millions of seniors off the coverage they like

The report is already reverberating around the country, giving momentum to calls for the IRS to investigate AARP’s tax-exempt status:
  • Did AARP, the nation’s leading advocacy group for older Americans, fight for last year's federal health-care law to the detriment of its members?,” The Seattle Times asks.  “Guilty, according to U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert and his fellow House Republicans — and they contend AARP had a motive.  On Wednesday, three members of the House Committee on Ways and Means released a report detailing what they called troubling conflicts over the nonprofit group’s multimillion-dollar foray into for-profit insurance businesses.”

  • “U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany and other Republicans said Wednesday they will call on the Internal Revenue Service to investigate whether AARP has abused its tax-exempt status and misled millions of its senior-citizen members,” the Lafayette (LA) Daily Advertiser reports.  “‘It’s about fairness and transparency,’ Boustany said. ‘It's about accountability to taxpayers.’

  • The report is “a fascinating read,” according to The Fiscal Times, which calls the scale of AARP’s insurance dealing’s “breathtaking.”

  • “The subcommittee … found that AARP’s haul from sponsoring insurance plans have nearly tripled in recent years to $657 million a year,” Fox News reports.  “What does it do with all that money?  AARP has charitable foundations, but the report says the contributions to them have barely moved…”

  • The dual nature of AARP has raised questions before,” the Associated Press notes
Unsurprisingly, Washington Democrats “immediately leapt to AARPs defense.”  After all, the AARP controversy is re-igniting questions about the payoffs, kickbacks, and backroom deals that helped make ObamaCare law over the objection of the American people.  AARP will have its day in court tomorrow when Ways & Means holds a hearing where the organization’s CEO is scheduled to testify.

Iranian Video Says Mahdi is 'Near'

New evidence has emerged that the Iranian government sees the current unrest in the Middle East as a signal that the Mahdi--or Islamic messiah--is about to appear.

CBN News has obtained a never-before-seen video produced by the Iranian regime that says all the signs are moving into place -- and that Iran will soon help usher in the end times.

While the revolutionary movements gripping the Middle East have created uncertainty throughout the region, the video shows that the Iranian regime believes the chaos is divine proof that their ultimate victory is at hand.

'The Coming is Near'

The propaganda footage has reportedly been approved at the highest levels of the Iranian government.

It's called The Coming is Near and it describes current events in the Middle East as a prelude to the arrival of the mythical tweflth Imam or Mahdi -- the messiah figure who Islamic scriptures say will lead the armies of Islam to victory over all non-Muslims in the last days.

"This video has been produced by a group called the Conductors of the Coming, in connection with the Basiji -- the Iranian paramilitary force, and in collaboration with the Iranian president's office," said Reza Kahlil, a former member of Iran's Revolutionary Guards who shared the video with CBN News.

Kahlili, author of the book, A Time to Betray, worked as a double agent for the CIA inside the Iranian regime.

"Just a few weeks ago, Ahmadenijad's office screened this movie with much excitement for the clerics," Kahlili told CBN News. "The target audience is Muslims in the Middle East and around the world."

To watch the video in its entirety, visit Kahlili's website.

The video claims that Iran is destined to rise as a great power in the last days to help defeat America and Israel and usher in the return of the Mahdi. And it makes clear the Iranians believe that time is fast approaching.

"The Hadith have clearly described the events and the various transformations of countries in the Middle East and also that of Iran in the age of the coming," said a narrator, who went on to say that America's invasion of Iraq was foretold by Islamic scripture--and that the Mahdi will one day soon rule the world from Iraq.

A Man-Made Energy Crisis

Obama’s policy is working . . . to raise energy costs.

Gas is well over $4 a gallon in most places in California — and soaring elsewhere as well. But are such high energy prices good or bad?

That should be a stupid question. Yet it is not, when the Obama administration has stopped new domestic offshore oil exploration in many American waters, curbed oil leases in the West, and keeps oil-rich areas of Alaska exempt from drilling. Last week, President Obama went to Brazil and declared of that country’s new offshore finds: “With the new oil finds off Brazil, President [Dilma] Rousseff has said that Brazil wants to be a major supplier of new stable sources of energy, and I’ve told her that the United States wants to be a major customer, which would be a win-win for both our countries.”

Consider the logic of the president’s Orwellian declaration: The United States in the last two years has restricted oil exploration of the sort Brazil is now rushing to embrace. We have run up more than $4 trillion in consecutive budget deficits during the Obama administration and are near federal insolvency. Therefore, the United States should be happy to borrow more money to purchase the sort of “new stable sources of energy” from Brazil’s offshore wells that we most certainly will not develop off our own coasts.

It seems as if paying lots more for electricity and gas, in European fashion, was originally part of the president’s new green agenda. He helped push cap-and-trade legislation through the House of Representatives in 2009. Had such Byzantine regulations become law, a recessionary economy would have sunk into depression. Obama appointed the incompetent Van Jones as “green-jobs czar” — until Jones’s wild rantings confirmed that he knew nothing about his job description “to advance the administration’s climate and energy initiatives.”

At a time of trillion-dollar deficits, the administration is borrowing billions to promote high-speed rail, and is heavily invested in the federally subsidized $42,000 Government Motors Chevy Volt. Apparently the common denominator here is a deductive view that high energy prices will force Americans to emulate European centrally planned and state-run transportation.

That conclusion is not wild conspiracy theory, but simply the logical manifestation of many of the Obama administration’s earlier campaign promises. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu — now responsible for the formulation of American energy policy — summed up his visions to the Wall Street Journal in 2008: “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.” I think Chu is finally figuring out the “somehow.”

Unreported Soros Event Aims to Remake Entire Global Economy

Left-wing billionaire's own experts dominate quiet push for 'a grand bargain that rearranges the entire financial order.'

By Dan Gainor
Wednesday, March 23, 2011 4:48 PM EDT

Two years ago, George Soros said he wanted to reorganize the entire global economic system. In two short weeks, he is going to start - and no one seems to have noticed.

On April 8, a group he's funded with $50 million is holding a major economic conference and Soros's goal for such an event is to "establish new international rules" and "reform the currency system." It's all according to a plan laid out in a Nov. 4, 2009, Soros op-ed calling for "a grand bargain that rearranges the entire financial order."

The event is bringing together "more than 200 academic, business and government policy thought leaders' to repeat the famed 1944 Bretton Woods gathering that helped create the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Soros wants a new 'multilateral system," or an economic system where America isn't so dominant.

More than two-thirds of the slated speakers have direct ties to Soros. The billionaire who thinks "the main enemy of the open society, I believe, is no longer the communist but the capitalist threat" is taking no chances.

Thus far, this global gathering has generated less publicity than a spelling bee. And that's with at least four journalists on the speakers list, including a managing editor for the Financial Times and editors for both Reuters and The Times. Given Soros's warnings of what might happen without an agreement, this should be a big deal. But it's not.

What is a big deal is that Soros is doing exactly what he wanted to do. His 2009 commentary pushed for "a new Bretton Woods conference, like the one that established the post-WWII international financial architecture." And he had already set the wheels in motion.

From Glenn Beck's radio show this morning:

And... The Daily News

via The Blaze: UNCUT TAPE: Former SEIU Official Reveals Secret Plan To Destroy JP Morgan

Obama: Drill, Brazil, Drill!

Energy Policy: While leaving U.S. oil and jobs in the ground, our itinerant president tells a South American neighbor that we'll help it develop its offshore resources so we can one day import its oil. WHAT?!?

With Japan staggered by a natural disaster and a nuclear crisis, cruise missiles launched against Libya in our third Middle East conflict and a majority of U.S. senators complaining about a lack of leadership on the budget, President Obama decided it would be a good time to schmooze with Brazilians.

His "What, me worry?" presidency has given both Americans and our allies plenty to worry about. But in the process of making nice with Brazil, Obama made a mind-boggling announcement that should make even his most loyal supporter cringe:

We will help Brazil develop its offshore oil so we can one day import it.

We have noted this double standard before, particularly when — at a time when the president was railing against tax incentives for U.S. oil companies — we supported the U.S. Export-Import Bank's plan to lend $2 billion to Brazil's state-run Petrobras with the promise of more to follow.

Now, with a seven-year offshore drilling ban in effect off of both coasts, on Alaska's continental shelf and in much of the Gulf of Mexico — and a de facto moratorium covering the rest — Obama tells the Brazilians:

"We want to help you with the technology and support to develop these oil reserves safely. And when you're ready to start selling, we want to be one of your best customers."

Obama wants to develop Brazilian offshore oil to help the Brazilian economy create jobs for Brazilian workers while Americans are left unemployed in the face of skyrocketing energy prices by an administration that despises fossil fuels as a threat to the environment and wants to increase our dependency on foreign oil.

Obama said he chose Brazil to kick off his first-ever visit to South America in recognition of that country's ascendancy. He has also highlighted one of the reasons for America's decline — an energy policy that through the creation of an artificial shortage of fossil fuels makes prices "necessarily skyrocket" to foster his green energy agenda.

In an op-ed in USA Today explaining his trip, Obama opined: "Brazil holds recently discovered oil reserves that could be far larger than ours. And as we seek to increase secure-energy supplies, we look forward to developing a strategic energy partnership."

Palin says she looks forward to meeting with PM to discuss key issues "as the world confronts sweeping changes and new realities."

JERUSALEM - Leading US Republican Sarah Palin began a private visit to Israel on Sunday, her first to the Jewish state, and planned to meet Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and tour holy sites.

Palin, a 2008 vice presidential candidate, is a potential White House contender in 2012 and a leading light in the fiscally conservative Tea Party movement.

SEIU Hit With RICO Lawsuit, Blames Hunton and Williams and…Koch Brothers

After years of being harassed by the purple people beaters, one company has finally said ENOUGH.

In a press release issued Thursday, Sodexo USA announced that the company has filed a civil lawsuit against the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) under the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act., accusing the union of engaging in an “illegal campaign of extortion.”  The lawsuit representing Sodexo is Hunton & Williams – the same firm SEIU and its allies have accused of launching a “dirty tricks” campaign against them in retaliation for their anti-Chamber of Commerce campaigns. (more on that after the jump)

One of the largest food services and facilities management companies in the world, Sodexo is the provider of choice for most schools, universities, companies, hotels, prisons and other facilities that outsource their cafeteria and food catering operations, and for those that outsource industrial cleaning services.  SEIU has been incessantly battering Sodexo since 2007, in its desire to unionize some of its nearly 400,000 employees, many of them hotel and food service workers.  Exacerbating the tensions was a longstanding turf war between SEIU and UNITE HERE over hotel and casino workers, which often spilled over into SEIU’s antics prior to the settlement the warring unions reached this past summer.

Sodexo USA has filed the lawsuit in an attempt to halt the over-the-top harassment from SEIU, alleging that many of the acts are very serious and outside of the normal realm of union tactics, including acts of ” SEIU blackmail, vandalism, trespass, harassment, and lobbying law violations designed to steer business away from Sodexo USA and harm the company.” [emphasis added]

Aside from some of its usual corporate smear campaign tactics, certain organizers in the SEIU subscribed to some especially nasty, and frankly repulsive, tactics:

A Mistake to Exclude Former Muslims From King Hearings

As someone who has encountered radical Islam firsthand, I have admiration and respect for Congressman Peter King and salute him for holding hearings on the “Extent of Radicalization in the American Muslim Community and that Community’s Response.” However, as a former Muslim, I am disappointed not to have seen anyone testifying on our behalf in the hearings. At least one former Muslim should have been there to tell America of our plight. Such witnesses would have explained why we left the Muslim faith right here in the United States and described how we had to choose between radical Islam and loving America. Unfortunately, not enough attention has been paid to the radicals and jihadists that followed us former Muslims to the United States to force us back into the same old culture of jihad, hatred, and anti-Semitism we came to America to escape in the first place. While these hearings accomplished much, they overlooked the radicals who want to deny us our freedom of religion under the Constitution and threaten our lives and civil rights daily.

Most former Muslims in the U.S. were originally devoted worshipers at mosques but became dismayed when we discovered a political and jihadist agenda. In mosques we were told not to assimilate in America, to have more children, and to wear Islamic clothes—even though I had never even worn the traditional garb in the Middle East. Imams encouraged us to pray wherever we wanted, even if we had to inconvenience others at airports, baseball games, or in workplaces. It soon became apparent that many mosques in America were more of a political organization than a place of worship, similar to the Middle East. In these radical mosques, the more pious Muslims were the ones seeking confrontation with American culture, such as taxi drivers who showed offense when alcohol or dogs were brought into their cabs. Worshipers were told openly that their mission in America was to make Islam the law of the land. Lying to Americans and feigning offense to conceal their jihadist aspirations was encouraged, and became a perfected art and a religious obligation, further alienating Muslims from American culture.

'Israel Should be Worried'

As stories leak out regarding who was responsible for Barack Obama's sudden pivot from passivity regarding Libya towards military engagement (albeit with England and France being in the lead) one name has emerged as playing a key role in persuading him to push the button: Samantha Power.

Her influence might cause qualms among supporters of the American-Israel relationship. As has been covered by American Thinker and others (notably Noah Pollak in Commentary Contentions, among them), Power has been critical of the strength of this friendship and alliance. This concern should be now be heightened. Not only has she emerged as a key player in foreign policy but the rationale that was used to justify American actions towards Libya can be used by other nations - if not the United States - to justify more active involvement in the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Power was Barack Obama's most influential foreign policy adviser during the campaign; they go back years and are basketball and Blackberry buddies. Any influence she has would not be good for the American-Israel relationship-for reasons outlined here and here (where she said this regarding problems Barack Obama had during the campaign; "So much of it is about: Is he good for the Jews?").

Power may also  have played a role in the granting of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Mary Robinson, a person with a checkered record regarding actions towards Israel.

She now serves on the National Security Council. Foreign-policy making in this administration has been opaque at best. But one dynamic that has been now made clear is that Power has emerged as a key player.

Japan crisis: 'There’s no food, tell people there is no food’

For those of you that listen to Glenn Beck and may think he's a little crazy when he tells you to store food, what would you say now? Food storage is wise because we never know what tomorrow will bring. I realize that even if some of the Japanese had extra food, it would not have benefited them if their house was whisked away by the tsunami but that's the risk we all have to take. It would be better to have extra food for your family than not to prepare, at all. - Reggie

Japan’s survivors scavenge for food in aftermath of tsunami

The unshaven man in a tracksuit stops his bicycle on the roadside and glances over his shoulder to check that he is unobserved. Satisfied, he reaches quickly into the sludge-filled gutter, picks up a discarded ready-meal and stuffs it into a plastic carrier bag.

In another time, another place, Kazuhiro Takahashi could be taken for a tramp, out scavenging for food after a long night on the bottle. In fact, he is just another hungry victim of Japan’s tsunami trying to find food for his family.

“I am so ashamed,” says the 43-year-old construction worker after he realises he has been spotted. “But for three days we haven’t had enough food. I have no money because my house was washed away by the tsunami and the cash machine is not working.”

If his haul wasn’t so pitiful — his bag had two packets of defrosted prawn dumplings and a handful of vacuum-packed seafood sticks inside — Mr Takahashi might be taken for a looter. But in the port town of Ichinomaki, 200 miles north of Tokyo, his story is disturbingly common.

Gallup Finds U.S. Unemployment at 10.2% in Mid-March

Underemployment was also unchanged from the end of February, at 19.9%

PRINCETON, NJ -- Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, was at 10.2% in mid-March -- essentially the same as the 10.3% at the end of February but higher than the 10.0% of mid-February and the 9.8% at the end of January. The U.S. unemployment rate is about the same today as the 10.3% rate Gallup found in mid-March a year ago.

The percentage of part-time workers who want full-time work was 9.7% in mid-March -- essentially unchanged from the 9.6% in both February measurements and higher than the 9.1% at the end of January. The percentage of the U.S. workforce that is working part time but wanting full-time work is the same now as was the case a year ago.

How Obama will figure your taxes

The Audacity of Golf

by Mark Steyn

No-Change You Can Believe In!

By the time you read this, President Obama will be taking a well-deserved break from the 54th hole of today’s scheduled golf game and the grueling responsibility of picking out his Final Four priority high-speed-rail projects on ESPN by relaxing on a beach in . . . Libya? Japan? No, Brazil. Oh, here he is now:

“Tall and tan and young and lovely

The boy from Spendaholica goes walking

And when he passes

Each one he passes

Goes ‘Aiiieeeeee . . .’”

Hey, it worked in 2008, and who’s to say the same old song won’t exercise its seductive charm all over again in 2012? That’s the way the president’s betting. As he told a gathering of high-rolling Democratic donors in Washington last week: “As time passes, you start taking it for granted that a guy named Barack Hussein Obama is president of the United States. But we should never take it for granted. I hope that all of you still feel that sense of excitement and that sense of possibility.”

Well, no, I couldn’t honestly say that I do. I mean, I always like the bit in the movie where 007 says, “The name’s Bond. James Bond,” but generally he follows it by rappelling into a hollowed-out volcano and taking out the evil mastermind while disabling the nuclear-launch codes with three seconds to spare. I’m not sure I get quite the same “sense of excitement” from the Obama version:

“The name’s Bond. James Hussein Bond.”

“I’m afraid you’re growing rather tedious, Mr. Bond.”

Speaking of names, the new stimulus-funded Amtrak station in Wilmington, Del., is to be named after Vice President Biden. Say what you like about Obama, but he made the naming of train stations run on time. We should never take it for granted that a guy named Joseph Robinette Biden is a railroad halt in the northeast corridor. I hope that all of you still feel that sense of excitement and that sense of possibility. I couldn’t be more excited if Robinette Hussein Robinette were president.

In 2008, Obama offered Hope and Change. This time round he’s offering the Hope of No Change. Life goes on. When your president’s middle name is Hussein, trust me, that’s all the change you guys need. Harry Reid says he doesn’t even want to talk about the possibility of opening discussions to consider raising the possibility of contemplating the thought of the merest smidgeonette of changes to Social Security for another 20 years. Senator Reid, 71, told MSNBC this week, “Two decades from now, I’m willing to take a look at it.” Big of you. No-Change You Can Believe In! The Audacity of Torpor.

There may be more takers for this than my friends on the right would wish. On Libya, the Audacity of Golf seems to have done the trick: Nobody’s in the mood for a no-fly zone in another thankless distant hellhole just as Iraq and Hoogivsastan have dropped off the news. And yeah, gas seems to be going up, and, when 40 percent of Americans work in minimal-skill service jobs, it makes a difference to the economic viability of those jobs whether you’re driving there at a dollar-eighty per gallon or four bucks. “We have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” said Steven Chu, now Obama’s energy secretary, in 2008. We’re getting there. It’s just shy of ten bucks per in Britain, but there’s no reason a fuel policy for small, densely populated nations can’t work for Wyoming, because we’re investing in all those high-speed rail links. So you’ll be able to commute from your home in Rattlesnake, Nevada to your job in North Rattlesnake, Nevada via the Joseph Robinette Biden Delaware, Lackawanna, Atchison, Topeka, Sante Fe & Canadian Pacific High-Speed Interchange Facility & Federal Stimulus Mausoleum in Wilmington.
